Jose Marti grew up in California and graduated with a Fisheries Biology degree from Humboldt State University. After graduating he started working for the National Marine Fisheries Service as an Observer on commercial fishing vessels fishing out of the Bering Sea of Alaska.

Jose visited Chile for the first time in December of 1997, the following year he returned to work as a fly fishing guide, fulfilling his life’s passion. He has been guiding fly fishing trips out of the XI Region of Chile ever since, starting Chile on the Fly in 2003. By 2008 Jose was guiding fishing trips year round, spending his winters guiding fly-fishing in Southern Patagonia, and summers guiding fly-fishing in some of the premier lodges of Alaska. He now teaches fly-fishing and guides fly-fishing trips year-round.
