Thinking of visiting for a fly fishing adventure but not sure what to bring or what you can expect getting to Patagonia? Here are a few questions we have been asked over the years by our clients and friends.
Which Airlines service Coyhaique Chile?
Current airlines that fly to Santiago Chile are Lan Chile, Delta and American Airlines.
Book a flight to Santiago Chile, with a connecting flight to Balmaceda Airport . Connecting airlines that service Balmaceda airport from Santiago Chile are, Lan Chile and Sky Airlines. We recommend using Lan Chile as your courier, although using the list above will help plan your personnel itinerary.
Do I need a visa or what type of documentation do I need?
A valid passport and drivers license is all that is needed. Be aware that Chile charges a $100.00 entrance fee which lasts until the expiration of your passport, so if you have been to Chile before and you still have the same passport this fee will not apply. The fee must be paid in cash upon arrival to Santiago Chile. This is a reciprocal fee because the U.S. charges Chilean tourists similarly to enter the U.S.
How much do flights cost?

How long is the flight to Chile?
A flight from Miami or Dallas to Santiago Chile, takes approximately 8 hours and the connecting flight from Santiago Chile to Balmaceda takes 3 hours, with a short layover in Puerto Mont.
What is the local currency?
Chile uses pesos for their currency. One dollar is equivalent to 510 – 550 Chilean pesos, depending on the current exchange rate.
Is Chile safe?
Very safe, but I would recommend leaving any expensive or valuable items at home such as Rolex's, diamond earrings etc. I have seen people lose these items while fishing, so leave them at home.
Are any inoculations necessary?
I have been going to Chile for over ten years now and have never had one. If you have any doubts ask your personnel physician.
Are there any dangerous animals about?
None at all, although some biting insects such as mosquito's and horse flies may appear during windless hot days. It is always a good idea to carry a small amount of insect repellent.
Do I need traveler's checks?
Not really, cash will give you the best exchange rate, as well as your bank card and credit card for a minimal service fee.
Do I need travel Insurance?
This is entirely up to you. Although we feel that when participating in any kind of 'adventure travel', it is always wise to invest in some type of Travel Insurance. If you have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to contact us.
